RTA300 - PREVIS AND ANIMATED ASSET PASS
Kiralee Smith
Real time animation production is a groundbreaking new process to creating sequences. With the ability to view productions without needing to render for hours, studios are able to work faster and more accurately in 3D space.
PAST WORK -
Reflecting on the last assessment, I hope to work on Rigging, Animation and Editing to improve my advertisement. With my feedback I learnt that I should make the timing more snappy and push the animation more.
RIGGING
Thankfully the pigeon came with its very own rig so it was a matter of creating the controllers to animate it in UnReal.

Following along with the class videos, I tried to create a control rig for the already made rig (from the rigged birds I purchased). I experienced some trouble here as there was an error that didn't allow me to make control rigs due to them being skeletal meshes.

Because of this and the fact that I also already liked the style of animation I was going with, I aimed to push what I already had further.
ANIMATION
To continue improving since my first assignment I wanted to make a very quirky animation of the pigeon. I wanted stylised full body movement.
CONTINUITY -
The great thing about using UnReal is how easy it is to have continuity due to assets being in 3D space and the camera being separate. I especially wanted to utilise the pigeons movement to tie all the shots together. So in the establishing shot, the pigeon is pecking the ground which is continued in the next shot (along with audio cues) and so long so forth.
ANIMATION -
Here is some progress of what I was going for, I loved the look of the pigeon hopping around everywhere.
It was at this point when I lost some of my work due to moving files to and from campus (as my laptop can't work UnReal). So the hopping animation was messed up unfortunately (when the pigeon hopped towards the skittle).
I was able to recreate what I did so I could now progress to the next step, editing!
EDITING
CLIPPING -
In this stage I made the shots more snappy to best retain the attention of the viewer. After some trimming here and there, the video ended up being 27 seconds long.
AUDIO -
Getting the sound engineering right wasn't too difficult as I had already recorded the sounds I needed. Rather it was working on the shot timing and getting the animation parallel to the audio. I cut up the sound effects to the animation (the stepping and pecking at the right time) and I brought it all together with some quirky music.
FINAL
FINAL ADVERTISEMENT PITCH
Here is the updated look for this assessment, I'm happy with the progress and refinement I've made. In the last stage I hope to refine it even more with the lighting, editing and the feedback given from this update.
REFLECTIONS -
I definitely found the storyboarding, editing and animation aspects the most enjoyable even though I had a few issues. Keen to finish this advertisement project!
